Copy of A letter to V.C. JNU.

Dear Jagadish ji,
I am 88+, have published around two dozen books, mostly on history and culture, but, so engrossed in my work that I was totally ill-informed and had very poor opinion of you. The article in Indian Express on you saved me from a fatal flaw. Through this letter, I want to convey that:
1. I condemned the agitation against the decisions taken by you, and ultimately even against your continuance as V.C.

2. You must have noted the way it is being spread from university to university, on slightest pretext, which is a proof that it is not against you, nor because of the grievances of the students, but ignited by political parties who, because of their failures on political front, have jointly decided to raise chaos, to fail the elected government at the center.

3. I find you mild as butter and firm as granite, and knowing well that the post of V.C. (as a teacher you are happier) has no charm for you, you stoutly maintain your position, as a duty, in a critical situation, I wish you to remain firm.

4. I find the opposition parties power-mad and ready to demolish the democratic foundation, for obvious reasons:

(a) A family has the divine right to head the ‘Congress’ and rule the nation and has disregarded democratic principles, whether in power or out of power, and lately (prompted by CROSS) has started using the methods of Italian mafioso to gain power. The country, democracy, and constitution are no longer safe in their hands.
(b) From its very inception, Indian communism was prompted and promoted by oligarchs, compromising with anti-democratic forces even during the National Movement; became the sober face of the League, and its riotous designs; a party to part the nation, and are ready to part it again, even though they admit that their initial support to Muslim league was a mistake, They commit mistakes, admit mistakes but never deviate from the path which adds another mistake to their account.
(c) The rest of the parties are blemished because of various personal ambitions, none even remotely ambitious to take the central stage;but all threatened by their possible extinction, join the opposition.
(d) They utilized minimal pretexts to raise it to cosmic levels – even the death of a person, suicide of a student, enhancement of fee, a law passed by parliament,an attempt to restore discipline -and these are the times that test men’s mind.Wish you to hold firm.
